Advantages and Disadvantages of Solar Energy in Renewable Energy Sources

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Solar Energy – The Advantages And Disadvantages Perhaps the greatest argument that could be leveled about having to use fossil and nuclear fuel is our dependence on it. Global warming, though a real serious threat, maybe something that we could only be very worried about. Singly nothing much could be done about it as it will take serious political will if it is to be addressed effectively and for now, other countries are not cooperating. But the choice between traditional and alternative sources of energy, that is something most of us can choose to do. First the advantages: Solar energy is abundant and is free. We can count the sun to rise tomorrow and the day after that. Oil and natural gases on the other hand are non renewable, once the source taps out, it is gone forever. Sure there are other areas that could still be tapped but sooner that could run out of oil as well. Solar energy does not pollute the air. If ever, the heat coming from the sun cleans the environment and maintains the earth’s eco balance. Not so with oil. Oil, its derivatives and its byproducts are great pollutants. In fact, 22,000 pounds of carbon monoxide will need to be produced first for the oil to be processed and supply a home with electrical energy for a year. Solar energy harnessing panels are silent operators. Except maybe for the mechanical contraptions that are built into the panels so it could track the sun, from the collection of the suns rays to its photovoltaic conversion, they give neither a peep nor a squeak. It is a world of difference from the cacophony of giant drills and pumps that are used to extract oil form the ground. Maintenance for the solar panels is very minimal. Except for the mechanical parts that are optional, almost no maintenance is needed. Once it is installed nothing much will be the cause for worry. The energy that is derived is free. With oil there is no telling what the next pump price would be and when. Oil, being a commodity, heavily depend its prices on market forces. Often with the right strategies, even market forces could be manipulated that could cause volatility in pricing. The Disadvantages of Solar Energy The cost. While solar energy is free, the cost of installation setbacks many household from installing it. Brand new solar energy generating systems are expensive. Although it tends to pay off overtime, initial cash out could range into several thousands of dollars depending on the quality and volume of generated power a household or an establishment would require. While solar energy technology has been around since the 1950’s it is only in recent years that its development was spurred. While costs of installation could also be subjective depending on the purchasing capacity of a customer, the benefits that could be derived out of it is enormous although mostly in unquantifiable terms.

Environmentally-Friendly “Earth Homes”
by Lady Camelot

What are “Earth Homes?” Earth homes are houses that are basically constructed from the earth. Some earth homes are built from adobe, mud, straw or even underground as an earth-sheltered home. Environmentally friendly, earth homes are easy to warm and cool and extremely energy efficient.

Adobe Earth homes are houses constructed from bricks comprised of tightly compacted earth, clay and straw. Adobe earth homes can be naturally waterproofed by using fermented cactus juice!

Earth sheltered earth homes are houses the are constructed underground – or at least mostly beneath the ground surface. Surrounding soil is a superp and nautral insulation which makes these homes cheap to heat and cool. Usually installed in a well-drained hillside, earth sheltered homes have a skylight window that can fill the home with natural sunlight. Although costs may run a bit higher than conventional home construction, earth sheltered homes are a good, long-term investment as lowered maintenance and energy savings make up the difference.

Straw Bale earth homes are making a comeback as well. Straw bale earth homes are obviously constructed of straw and grass, are energy efficient, and can cut material building costs by as much as fifty percent.

Earth homes, such as Cob Houses are built from clay-type lumps of soil, sand and straw. Similar to the adobe homes, except cob earth homes do not use bricks or blocks. Cob homes have walls that are sculpted into smooth forms. Again, very energy efficient, cob homes are well-suited for the very cold climates and deserts.

Rammed earth homes may have over 18-inch, thick walls that are made from a comcination of dirt, sand, cement and water. Energy conservative, rammed earth homes have the appearance of bungalow-style charm and help keep the house warm in winter and cool in the summer. Additionally, rammed earth homes may last hundreds of years.

Why build an earth home? Earth homes conserve energy, and in most cases are easier to maintain and can endure for years to come. An excellent site to visit on earth homes: www.hobbithomes.ca This particular site even has a recipe for building your own “cob” earth home, and other projects as well.

As we embark on a strange, new age and global warming continuously on the rise, doesn’t it make sense to construct your new custom home as an earth home?

Is Algebra Too Hard?

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Algebra is an area of maths that is often presented to pupils in Jr. High. As a matter of fact, many pupils find algebra as a difficult study area to understand. It is actually an advanced form of math that takes the pupil through a study of structure, relation and quantity.

General Methods Employed in Algebra

Although ‘variables’ is one of the frequently used terms in computer science, this is first presented in algebra. This is frequently used when adding and subtracting radicals. When adding or subtracting radicals the radicals essentially be the same order before you add or subtract them.

As a method of finding the least common denominator by listing the multiples of each denominator and dividing by 2,3,4, and so on. After that you should look at the smallest number. An example is multiples of 5 are 10, 15, 20, 30. Multiples of 6 are 12, 18, 24, 30, and multiples of 15 are 30, 45, 60. As you can see 30 is the smallest number that appears in the list of multiples.
If you are supposed to simplify a fraction, it can be done easily by finding a common factor in the numerator and denominator. A common factor is going to be a number that will equally divide into both numbers. An example would be 3 is a common factor for 6 and 12. Three will equally divide into 6 and into 12. You could also look at 2 being a common factor for 4 and 14. The same division process needs to be repeatedly run until there are no common factors left. This can also be done by finding the GCF of both the numerator and the denominator. You will divide the numerator and the denominator by the greatest common factor instead of the common factor.

Getting Good with Algebra

If you find yourself in trouble with algebra and can’t seem to find the solution you need. In this case, an algebra problem solver, typically a software package, will be an perfect solution for getting assistance. With one of these computer software package you will have the opportunity to input your figures and your problem will be solved immediately. Having access to an algebra problem solver software can mean the difference in passing or failing. Most pupils cannot afford a tutor and they might not be available when you need them at times. With an algebra software package you will have access to the solutions you need, anytime when necessary.

Algebra Explained

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

After an exhaustive research over the causes behind the maximum school dropouts, a consistency was found in the answers of the majority of the individuals pointing towards Algebra. The proficiency of knowledge of the teacher is not merely enough for pupils to comprehend the algebraic concepts, nor it is adequate to evoke interest about the subject field. It s the technique; the subject matter is delivered to its pupils which contributes a lot for developing interest in the contents.

What is Algebra?

A concise introduction of Algebra would be a branch of mathematics which replaces letters for numbers; therefore, algebraic equations can be viewed as a scale. The basic theories of algebra includes real numbers, complex number s, matrices and vectors.

The Different Domains

Algebra in general covers a lot of areas. Some that are worth mentioning are Multiplying exponents, dividing exponents, Solving radical equations, Finding Greatest common factor or GCM, Multiplying, Adding, Subtracting fractions and many more.

If the above mentioned areas are already putting butterflies in your stomach, I hope that the definitions to follow will alleviate your anxiety and give real insight in to the subject matter.

Exponents are just shorthand for referring multiplication of identical factors. Fractions are equally interesting and actually are used when representing numbers that describe the parts of a whole. Similarly there are other areas too in algebra which are scary by name but equally interesting by their definition and purpose. To put down a few more items – Mixed numbers, Quadratic formula, Graphing linear inequalities, solving compound in equalities, Factoring binomials, and Factoring polynomials; are all algebraic expressions.

I am sure it will be perplexing to comprehend mixed numbers, but it will really interest you to note that they are none other than a type of fractions. Similarly, graphing linear equalities may be self explanatory and there are many other similar algebraic expressions that may sound complicated but are extremely interesting to work with.

Finding a Private Instructor

If you are curious in understanding the domain of algebraic expressions yet do not have a private instructor to assist you in the procedure, do not worry since online tutorials will come for your rescue. These tutorials stress the practicalities rather than the technicalities, presenting reliable techniques. The algebra solver software systems can guide you step by step in working out your maths problems and it can also provide explanations of all steps.

Globally Glaciers Are Receding at a Horrific Pace

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Everywhere glaciers are melting at a greater rate than at any time since measurements began, reports The Independent. Glaciologists from the World Glacier Monitoring Service, which records 33 glaciers in 10 mountain ranges, guage that from 1849 to 1972 glaciers receded at a median rate of 29 centimetres per annam. Between 1967 and 1997 the amount receding jumped to 65 – 85 centimeters per year. From then the avg. has been more than 1 metre a yr. And last season saw the biggest recedings thus far of 1.2 meters.

Worldwide glaciers are receding least ways as swiftly as those in this small representative group with potentially fatal consequences for close by communities. In the short term there could be more floodings, whilst in the long term, water supplies could dry out, meaning acute mains water shortfalls.

Chamonix village, has a large amount of glaciers, the outcomes of global warming and the receding of glaciers could be keenly found. Possibly this is why so many companies, and locals appear to be more cognizant of the topics so are therefore essaying to undertake measures to limit their carbon output. Hopefully it is not too little too late to arrest the effects of global climate change and insure an environment for our youngsters. So think about how you travel when you go to your ski accommodations.
