Virgin Media Fails to Keep its Music Downloads Promise
Saturday, November 7th, 2009Virgin Media’s promise to its customers of providing them unlimited music download might not be fulfilled completely. Its subscribers will be able to avail its music download facility by December, but they will get only limited services. This news may come as a disappointment to the company’s subscribers who had been eagerly awaiting the unlimited service.
The ISP has decided to put a limit of 40MP3 downloads every month at the price of £15. The service is being launched in association with Universal Music. However, Sony Music and EMI, who are rivals of Universal Music, are uncomfortable with this partnership.
Virgin Media had first made an announcement in June with the promise of unlimited download facility. While that has not come into existence, the subscribers will still be able to stream unlimited music, if not download it.
Other than this change, the project is working on schedule, and as a spokesperson for Virgin Media said some time back, the company is negotiating with all important music labels to launch a good service.
BSkyB has similar plans to launch its own music download service. However, nothing has been finalized yet, and the subscribers are still waiting for an official declaration from the company.
